Do you need an MOT?

In the UK, an MOT (Ministry of Transport) test is a legal requirement for most vehicles over three years old. It’s designed to ensure your car meets DVSA safety and environmental standards, keeping you, your passengers, and other road users safe.

Driving without a valid MOT can result in:

  • Fines of up to £1,000

  • Points on your licence

  • In some cases, your vehicle being impounded

Beyond legalities:

  • An MOT Identifies safety issues before they become dangerous
  • Ensures your vehicle runs efficiently and tests for harmful emissions

  • Helps maintain your car’s value by keeping its MOT history complete, showing that the car has been maintained and used

  • Gives you peace of mind that your vehicle is safe to drive on the road.

When is my MOT due?
You must get an MOT every 12 months from the date of your last test (or first registration). You can book your MOT at any time.
